Physical Features In and Around Munich
Munich is located on the Isar River between the Alps and the Danube River. It began as a small town enclosed by a wall and as it grew in population, was expanded physically beyond the walls. Because of this, the oldest and most historic features of Munich are within the city center and its geographical features are located outside the metropolis. The oldest section of the town is on the west bank of the Isar River. North of the old section is the city's largest park, the English Garden and botanical garden.
